What is IB Diploma Programme?
IB Diploma Programme
The IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) is an academically challenging and balanced pre-university programme that prepares students, aged 16 – 19, for success at university and life beyond. It has been designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of students.
Curriculum
During the 2-year study at IBDP@TKC, students would have the opportunity for a well-rounded education by
taking 6 subjects from each of the following subject groups. Student may also choose either an arts
subject from Group 6 or a second subject from Groups 1 – 5. At least 3 and not more than 4 subjects
are taken at a higher level (240 teaching hours) and others at standard level (150 teaching hours).
Group 1: Studies in Language & Literature
Group 2: Language Acquisition
Group 3: Individuals and Societies
Group 4: Sciences
Group 5: Mathematics
Group 6: The Arts
Additionally, all IB students must complete the following:
THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE (TOK)
– An interdisciplinary subject at the core of the IBDP; designed to stimulate critical awareness
of bases of knowledge, experience, and judgment in human thought and creativity.
EXTENDED ESSAY (EE)
– The requirement to research, write and submit for external evaluation a 4,000-word essay on a
the topic of interest from within the IB curriculum; usually taken from one of their higher levels
subject.
CREATIVITY, ACTION, SERVICE (CAS)
– The student must demonstrate a continuous engagement in extra-curricular, evenly balanced
between creative, athletic, and community service activities.
The following subjects may be available but subject combinations offered in a given semester are determined by the school.
